Balgowlah Heights

Previously a sloped lawn and perimeter hedges, this back garden was just a hill of grass to mow and not much more.  With a clever pool and garden design that terraced and reworked the sloping site levels, this family-friendly landscape now has the fun and function it was missing, and provides everything you need for when the neighbours drop by too.

With the main living spaces of the home and alfresco deck located above on level one, the lower ground floor of the home is the connection to the rear gardens.  A new steel beam allowed for the removal of an existing central post, opening the lower ground floor lounge/bar terrace to the new pool and lower gardens.

Generous width concrete steps serve as connection, and as informal seating to the lawn. Within the pool enclosure, the deck and built-in seat with storage create space to lounge while the kids splash about, and a weathered hardwood screen conceals the pool  equipment while also providing a place to throw to the inflatable pool toys when a quick clean up is needed.

The end of the garden is enclosed with sub-tropical foliage plantings to break up the hedged expanses, providing a soft backdrop to the pizza oven bench and seating area. With festoon lights strung overhead, this extra entertaining space draws you out into the garden year-round. Pizzas down by the pool on summer evenings, and in the winter the firepit sits just fine on the robust recycled brick paving. Pretty much all you need…
