Mosman
A technical project in collaboration with an architect owner that required clever resolution and integration of a new swimming pool around the existing building, in a rather tight, steep and rocky corner of the site.
The pool (and pool fencing) design and proportions were really important to get right so that the spaces didn’t feel squeezed in. Ironically through the design process it did feel that way at times but the outcome is certainly not that - the pool sits effortlessly into the landscape with a natural stone stair case connecting the pool and house to the lower garden and courtyard space.
In order to maintain that sense of openness, overcoming pool barrier restrictions was absolutely critical. This has been achieved through a custom fabricated stainless steel round bar fence that is passive and also sculptural, perforated mesh panels cladded to the face of the pool, and square mesh screens along the boundary which act as a trellis for Hibbertia scandens to cover.
A mix of local native plants and flowering perennials create a considered but natural buffer between hard edges.
